A couple of months ago, I began annotating my re-read of ACOTAR ( A Court Of Thorns And Roses ) and I fell in love with tabbing everything I wanted to make a note of or questioned.
A year or so ago, I tried annotating and I just couldn’t bring myself to actually write in my book. Until… I discovered the wide range of annotation accessories.
I’ve found the best thing to get started with annotating your books is to start simple and build up.
Tip one
Begin tabbing using colours that you like or match your tabs to the cover of your book. Personally, I find that matching the colour of the tabs to the cover is aesthetically pleasing and most enjoyable.
Imagine completing your book and looking back at the fully tabbed book with colours that are visually pleasing.
tip two
If you’re not quite ready to write or underline in your books, try using sticky notes and underlining strips that offer a temporary addition to your books where you can draw, write, underline quotes or passages without leaving a permanent mark in your beloved read.
tip three
Use annotation as an extension of yourself. If you’re the type of person that likes to be neat and organised, use these traits in your annotations. If you like to be messy and scribble do it. You’ll find you’ll enjoy annotating your books so much more when you do it your own way, in your own style.
On Booktok and Booksta, I’ve seen people who are creative actually draw out scenes from the book onto the page. This is their style and its wonderful… It’s wonderful because it’s their way. There’s no right or wrong way. There’s just YOUR WAY!
With all this being said, I hope I have inspired you all to give annotating a try.
