Synopsis: A heart-breaking and hilarious memoir by i-Carly and Sam & Cat star Jennette McCurdy about her struggles as a former child actor – including eating disorders, addiction and a complicated relationship with her overbearing mother – and how she retook control of her life.

Thoughts on ” I’m Glad My Mom Died ” : I’m sure you’ve seen and heard about the hype for this memoir already but I’m here to shout about it too!

I absolutely devoured this book in just a few hours and it was such a well written recount of Jennette’s life. It is definitely harrowing and upsetting but Jennette has managed to write her story in a way that is intriguing, beautiful and very personal. The audiobook is narrated by her and is honestly amazing! I always think that the story is more personal when an author narrates the audiobook and with this one it’s 100% true. You can hear the emotion in her voice which definitely adds to the rollercoaster of emotions that you feel as a reader.

I don’t think I’ve ever read a memoir which has invoked so many different emotions and also left me feeling such a strong pride for the author. I’m so happy this story has been shared with the world! I think this is a very important story and will help a lot of people feel a little less alone in their struggles too

After reading “I’m Glad My Mom Died”, I’ve realised that memoirs can be for me I just needed to find one written by someone who can write in a way that puts all their emotions onto the page regardless of how controversial or unpopular they may sound. This is without a doubt one of the best books I read in 2022 and I hope Jennette writes more soon!

#bookstagram thoughts

I loved I-Carly as a kid, and Sam was consistently my favourite character (although I’m starting to feel a little guilty about that), so I knew when she announced her memoir that I HAD to read it.

It was equal parts hilarious and heart breaking. it’s definitely an important read, and highlights the darkest side to growing up as a child actor that’s often left unseen.
The ending was powerful, and I’m very glad to know that Jennette is taking back her life following years of abuse, addiction and co-dependency.

I consumed this book in two sittings. It is an honest and raw account of growing up with a narcissistic mother and the impact that had on a child forced into stardom.

It is heart breaking yet beautifully written account by the hugely talented Jennette McCurdy who is now finally free to pursue her love of writing. One of the best memoirs I’ve read to date, it is both tragically sad and wonderfully uplifting with a good dash of humour thrown in for good measure. Definitely one to read!

I can’t put into words how much I love and respect this book.

Such a fantastic, dark, truly funny but heart breaking account of ‘Net’s childhood.
