After meeting the lovely Holly Jackson at her ‘Not Quite Dead Yet’ book signing I was scolded for only having read ‘kill joy’ at the time. I have since read ‘Not Quite Dead Yet’ and now ‘A Good Girls Guide To Murder’ which I will be reviewing now.
I went into this book not knowing much about it, only that it is a murder mystery and that there is a character named Pip. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. All the twists and turns that Holly takes you on in this book is just incredible. Holly left me on the edge of my seat wanting to know what happens next? Who will the next person of interest be? Who killed Andie Bell? AND who killed …. you wont get any spoilers outta me here.
This book did pull at my heart strings a little in some places, some happy and some sad. My vision may have gotten a little blurry in some places (teary eyes), as I was reading along with the audiobook playing and the physical copy. I feel having the voices of the characters and their tone in the audio helped with that. Now if you know me you know I love a good mystery and thriller novel and this one had everything I love all rolled up into the pages.
I like the fact the physical book has all the production log entries and little pictures of how the investigation is getting on and updates on who has been added or taken off of the people of interest list. I absolutely devoured the left half of the book all in one day just to find out more. This book made me want more and thank goodness there are another two books in the series.
The characters in this book are very lovable. I especially love Pip, Ravi and of course Barney the golden retriever. But of course every book has characters that are not so lovable for me, Max Hastings was a big red flag character. This book was an absolute rollercoaster of emotions. It had me teary eyed, shocked, confused, happy and overall amazed. In the last 100 pages or so of this book a LOT happens, killers are revealed, new deaths almost happen, people get arrested and everything starts to make sense.
I think it's safe to say that this book had me hooked from the very first line. Learning all about the people from little Kilton and about Andie Bell before she went missing all of her secrets and mysteries coming to light through pips investigation was part of what made this book very easy to read. The phone call interviews and the little white lies Pip sometimes had to tell in order to get on with her investigation all of it played a huge role in making this book what it is. And what it is, is a five star gripping murder mystery read and I loved every word from page to page. I guess what I'm trying to say is READ IT READ IT NOW IF YOU HAVEN'T ALREADY.
Blurb:
The case is closed. Five years ago, schoolgirl Andie Bell was murdered by Sal Singh. The police know he did it. Everyone in town knows he did it.
But having grown up in the same small town that was consumed by the crime, Pippa Fitz-Amobi isn't so sure. When she chooses the case as the topic for her final project, she starts to uncover secrets that someone in town desperately wants to stay hidden. And if the real killer is still out there, how far will they go to keep Pip from the truth … ?
